Description: It’s Bronco’s Birthday. Usually every Columbus Day weekend is taken up with other activities, but thanks to COVID, sadly not this year. YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO. First of all, it’s 10/10 so that calls for tutus (22s), extra points for red. Second, if you’re colorblind, wear green. Third, wear a red dress if you want too. No gather round, no circle. Bring your own MASK, beer, wine, Trulys, bubbly, water, orange food, snacks, lunch, cake, chair, drinking vessel, and warm red clothes. BB will be celebrating in person on Saturday only, unless someone wants to bring mimosas on Sunday am like Spinal Tap and Hasher Humper used to do. Trail will be checked/remarked on Sunday and Monday.
Trail Notes: A-to-A, No false trails. The next mark after a check is true trail. Ya still gotta find the next mark! If this changes we’ll let you know. Flour color for Runners Trail – TBD; Walker’s Trail will be Fluorescent Orange Flour Trail Distances (Miles): Walker ~ 3.0, Runners ~ 6.0 Shiggy Ratings: (1=None to 10=Jungle Bushwacking): Walkers – 1, Runners – 3, you have a couple of miles in the woods, maybe one patch of shoe-sucking mud Moistness Level (1-10): Should be beautiful. Check the news or Weather Channel Dog Friendly: Yes – Trail is mostly paths, streets, sidewalks, woods, some shiggy. Leashes are required in Fort Hunt. And be prepared to pick up after them when they poop in Fort Hunt (everywhere really). Stroller Friendly: Yes – see Dog Friendly.
Safety: We strongly encourage all wankers to bring a phone on trail with them. There are a couple of BVCs crossing the George Washington Parkway for everyone. No tunnels – bring headlamp if you want to carry add’l weight and/or if you hash as sun is setting. No PI & PV spotted on trail but there are Hashers/Harriet’s that like the smell of Ivy Block. It might not be as hot as in summer, but still remember sunscreen, bug spray, and bring water on trail! In fact, it might be chilly, so dig out your old MV/DCH4/WH sweatshirts, hoodies, and fleeces.
Directions to Start: Once in Fort Hunt Park, locate picnic area C1. There is a parking lot attached to C1. The picnic area is reserved for Saturday only. From Old Town Alexandria drive south on Washington Street and continue on the George Washington Memorial Parkway ~6.5 miles. Take the exit for Fort Hunt Park and follow signs into the park. From Mount Vernon, drive north on the George Washington Memorial Parkway 3.1 miles. Take the exit for Fort Hunt Park and follow signs into the park.
Metro: Not really, though you could get someone to pick you up at Old Town or Huntington or take an Uber. Do not try and walk it. Biking down the MV Trail is an option for the DC Bash group.
Miscellaneous Notes: Hounds are welcome to hang out with the hares and share tales of RDRs past. Fun fact – did you know BB was a co-founder of the Phnom Penh RDR? Bring anything you want, it’s A-to-A. Hares recommend your own chair. It sucks sitting on splintery picnic tables. As usual, bring dry shoes, water, and clothes in a small bag, not your airport suitcase. The picnic site is reserved for Saturday only. If C-1 is not reserved on Sunday/Monday, it can be invaded. We don’t have a pavilion, but trail is on rain or shine. As a reminder, we are still hashing with our individual quaranteams, not as a group.
Bring your own snacks, water, and beer. Also, bring your phone with you on trail! To reiterate, please DO NOT show up to trail before 10am on Saturday. Pick another time that works for you, so that we can stay distant from each other. We’re trying to keep as much of the hashing spirit alive, while still staying safe. OnOn and On-Out!
